WHO is investigating

40 cases of monkey pox in Spain and Portugal and 9 cases in Britain. Then the World Health Organization (WHO) team also came into action. The agency is investigating the transmission of the virus to homosexual patients, and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is conducting contact tracing to identify potential patients. Health experts believe that Monkey Pox is unlikely to break out at this time.

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA)

says that the majority of cases of monkey pox in Britain so far have involved men who identify themselves as gay or bisexual, meaning that these men have had sex with men. The agency also warned gay men. So far, monkey pox has not been considered a sexually transmitted disease. However, health experts have warned gay and bisexual men to have a sexual health checkup immediately if they notice any symptoms.

Symptoms of Monkey Pox

According to the UKHSA, the early symptoms of Monkey Pox are similar to the flu. These include fever, headache, muscle aches, back pain, tremors, fatigue and swollen lymph nodes. This is followed by a rash on the face, which can spread to other parts of the body. During the transition these spots undergo many changes and eventually fall off as scab like chickenpox.

Chickenpox vaccine also effective for monkey pox

According to the CDC, the chickenpox vaccine is also effective in transmitting monkey pox. The American Food and Drug Association (FDA) approved a vaccine called Jynneos in 2019 to prevent this rare disease. It was approved by the European Medicines Agency in 2013. However, the vaccine can only be used on people over the age of 18.
